Suffolk and North East Essex Health and Care Academy Virtual Careers Course

Virtual 1 Aug 2022 at 10:00am

The Suffolk Health and Care Academy is offering a virtual course during the summer holidays to anyone aged 14-18 and living in Suffolk, who would like to gain an insight into working in Mental Health or Learning Disabilities.  Delivered by the Next Generation programme, the aim of this series of free virtual sessions is to encourage and inspire young people thinking about a career in this field and to offer advice on their next steps.

This four day academy course is being delivered virtually via Microsoft Teams, from 1st to 4th August and will run from 10am – 12.30pm.

It is intended that all sessions are attended in order to gain a full understanding of these particular fields of Health and Care.  The Academy will include career insight sessions such as Psychology, Psychiatry, Art Therapy, Speech and Language Therapy, Mental Health Nursing and Learning Disability Nursing.  These career insight sessions are all delivered by healthcare staff, who are perfectly placed to speak genuinely about their roles and also answer any questions. On completion of the short course, participants will be awarded a certificate of participation for use in future applications and interviews.

“I found this Academy very interesting, learning about different roles and how important they are, as well as understanding the fundamental characteristics needed in Health and Care careers.”

“It has made me feel less anxious about not getting into medical school as I now realise there are so many amazing opportunities in the NHS for me to pursue!”

“Thank you very much! I learnt so much about jobs that I hadn’t previously considered.”

“A very eye-opening experience being able to engage with healthcare professionals and talk to them without feeling under pressure or fear of saying the wrong thing.”
