• Observation of Clinical Procedures, Admissions, and Discharges (with patient consent)
Observing a range of patient care processes to gain an understanding of how healthcare professionals assess, plan, deliver, and evaluate care. Developing awareness of confidentiality, dignity, and patient safety in practice.

• Communication with Patients and Families
Engaging with patients, carers, and family members under supervision to build confidence in communication, empathy, and active listening. Recognising the importance of clear, compassionate communication in supporting wellbeing and building trust.

• Preparing and Serving Refreshments for Patients
Supporting the comfort and hydration of patients by preparing and offering refreshments, while adhering to hygiene and infection prevention standards. Learning about dietary needs and the role of nutrition in patient recovery.

• Cleaning Equipment and Making Beds
Assisting staff with maintaining a clean and safe environment by helping clean non-clinical equipment and preparing patient beds. Understanding infection control procedures and the importance of maintaining high standards of cleanliness.

• Preparing Patient Folders and Information Booklets
Organising and assembling admission packs, folders, and information materials to support effective record-keeping and patient education. Gaining insight into the administrative processes that underpin safe and efficient care delivery.

• Greeting Patients and Assisting Them to the Waiting Area
Welcoming patients and visitors to the department, providing reassurance and assistance where required. Developing an understanding of the patient journey from arrival through to consultation or treatment.

• Observation of Teamwork in the Healthcare Environment
Observing how multidisciplinary teams work together to deliver coordinated, person-centred care. Recognising the value of collaboration, respect, and clear communication between healthcare professionals.

• Restocking Non-Clinical Supplies
Supporting the smooth running of the department by checking and replenishing non-clinical stock items such as gloves, aprons, and stationery. Understanding the importance of organisation, attention to detail, and maintaining readiness for clinical activity.
