This placement provides an introduction to nephrology (kidney medicine) and ward life. Students will:
- Observe the role of healthcare assistants (HCAs) and other staff working on the ward.
- Assist with non-clinical ward duties such as bed making and supporting meal times.
- Talk to patients, helping with social interaction and supporting them with tasks such as completing menu cards.
- Gain an understanding of how patients with kidney-related conditions are cared for in hospital.
This placement is suitable for students interested in both patient care and the daily running of a clinical ward.
