This placement provides a broad overview of life on a hospital ward and the many different roles within a healthcare team. Students will:
- Observe staff carrying out patient clinical observations and learn why these are important.
- Assist the therapy team with supervised activities for patients.
- Observe doctors during ward rounds and learn how care decisions are made.
- Shadow ward clerks and see how patient notes and records are managed.
- Observe healthcare practitioners and the wider multidisciplinary team (MDT).
- Support with patient mealtimes, gaining an understanding of nutrition and hydration in hospital care.
- Observe MDT meetings and how different professionals work together.
This placement provides a well-rounded experience of both patient-facing and behind-the-scenes care.
