JCH, Spalding – Outpatients (Rotational Placement)

Duration 3 sessions

Students will have the opportunity to spend 1 day in each of the four departments.

- Outpatients – Shadowing a member of the team providing care in our outpatient clinics. Clinics may include
- Theatre – vascular, cataract & minor op surgery, phlebotomy, diabetes, ophthalmology, gynae, rheumatology, endocrinology, gastro, orthopaedics, elderly medicine, ENT, general surgery, gastro, respiratory, renal, urology,
- Urgent Treatment Centre – Shadowing a member of the team providing a range of care to patients at our walk in centre.
- Community Nursing Team – Shadowing a member of the team, visiting housebound patients in their own homes to provide a range of care including: medicine administration and wound care (Over 18’s only). Students aged between 16-17 yrs. will have the opportunity to work with the administrator for the Community Nursing team based in the office, this is due to the safeguarding risks around entering patient’s homes and travelling in staff vehicles.
- Welland Ward – Shadowing a member of the team providing care to patients on our community short stay rehabilitation ward.
- Opportunity to care for patient on palliative and end of life care
- Provide holistic care to patients with emphasis on rehabilitation and empowering.
- Be involved with various assessments, care planning and evaluation which ensures best possible positive patient experience and outcome.
- Understand the difference between and plan & provide care to patients on barrier and reverse barrier nursing (protected isolation).
