This placement provides an introduction to the workings of an orthopaedic ward. Working alongside a multi-disciplinary team of clinical and non-clinical staff, activities include:
• Observing and assisting ward clerks with administrative tasks, such as filing notes and organising patient information.
• Shadowing housekeepers during tasks like meal service, cleaning, and restocking supplies.
• Supporting Healthcare Support Workers (HCSWs) in similar roles, such as cleaning and restocking.
• Interacting with patients during mealtimes to encourage social engagement and enhance their experience.
• Observing the teamwork required in a ward setting and gaining an understanding of patient care processes.
