Insight into Therapeutic Radiotherapy

Living or studying in Lincolnshire
ULTH - Lincoln County Hospital
Pathway Allied Health
Minimum Age Age 16 years and above
Duration One day (preferably on a Tuesday)

Experience a day in the life of a therapeutic radiographer. See how high-energy X-rays are used to treat cancer. Learn about the advanced technology used to deliver radiotherapy and the processes involved in treatment.
You will be rotated through pre-treatment, where patients are prepared for their radiotherapy and localisation CT images are taken. Then you will spend some time in dosimetry (treatment planning) and see how radiation physics is utilised to create bespoke, conformal radiotherapy plans that maximise the chance of treatment success with minimal side effects.
Finally, you will shadow therapeutic radiographers on the linear accelerators and see how they deliver radiotherapy accurately and safely. Learn about the patient pathway, the potential side effects of treatment and how these are managed. This is an exciting opportunity to learn about a vital aspect of cancer treatment and gain some insight into a rapidly developing industry.

Location: Please follow the signs for Oncology, and speak to Oncology reception regarding a work experience day in radiotherapy.
