During the placement, the student will observe the responsibilities of the hospital pharmacy team, enabling them to gain an overview of the team's work and its role in patient care. They will shadow both pharmacists and pharmacy technicians in the ward environment, observing medication reconciliation on admission and discharge, patient counselling and the provision of pharmaceutical care advice to other healthcare professionals. They will observe dispensing activities in the dispensary, including controlled drug dispensing and discharge dispensing, and will observe stores-based activities.
