Students will shadow the paediatric team, including consultants, registrars, and junior doctors, to gain an understanding of paediatric healthcare. Activities include:
• Observing ward rounds on the Safari and Rainforest wards, as well as Clinic 5.
• Gaining insight into procedures such as venepuncture and lumbar punctures, conducted under supervision.
• Learning about nursing roles, including patient observations and clerking processes.
• Exploring behind-the-scenes activities such as staffing rotas and waiting list management with the Acute Paediatric Management and Support Teams.
This placement provides a comprehensive view of paediatric care, though students will not be involved in A&E or emergency department activities for safety reasons.
