The student will be shadowing the Paediatric Hot Week Consultant and their team who will plan the week’s placement activities for each student.
Shadowed activities can include the following:
- Shadowing ward duties, including ward rounds, patient observations and assessments, clerking by junior doctors, admission / discharge procedures
- Opportunities to visit other areas, including Neonatal Unit, SBCU, Children’s Outpatient Clinics, Safari Ward
- Witnessing appropriate clinical procedures carried out on the ward (e.g venepuncture, Lumbar puncture)
- Witnessing Outpatient Clinic functionalities and appointments
- Opportunities to see behind-the-scenes work carried out by Acute Paediatric Management and Support Teams, including medical staffing rotas and Waiting List Management, if relevant and appropriate to students' field of interest
