Insight into Audiology

PLACEMENT INFORMATION:
Audiologists support the ear nose and throat (ENT) clinicians by testing patients’ hearing during clinics, they also perform diagnostic tests requested by medical staff such as investigations of balance function and complex hearing tests. They also fit hearing aids to adults and children and provide long term support and advice to hearing users.

PLACEMENT DETAILS:
Whilst on placement the individual will have the opportunity to observe the work of qualified staff. Individuals will be encouraged to gather evidence of what they have done and observed whilst on placement.

The following are a list of duties that individuals may be required to undertake:

• Assist with receiving and reassuring patients
• Directing and guiding patients, and those accompanying them, to the various departments and facilities within the hospital
• Making up stripped examination beds – aprons and gloves available
• Running Errands
• Observing medical staff
