During Paediatric work experience you will be observing acute paediatric nursing care. There will be two areas in which you can express an interest:

Bluebell Acute Children’s Ward: Within this area you will able to experience inpatient paediatric care for Children and young people aged 0-16 years. Bluebell is a 20 bedded unit, comprising of 8 isolated cubicles and 12 beds. Bluebell have planned admissions as well as acute admissions from the emergency department and Oncology. The specialities cover Paediatric, Orthopaedic, Surgical, ENT, Safeguarding, Mental Health and Gynae patients. There will be a wide range of medical admissions that can be observed whilst on the ward. Skills to witness may include Paediatric observation, acute respiratory interventions, seizure management, diabetes care, mental health and medical interventions for unwell children.

Children’s Day Services: Day unit has planned admissions including blood transfusions, blood tests, registrar clinics, plastics dressing clinics and jaundice clinics. You will get the opportunity to sit in with Doctors during clinic appointments and observe the nurses. Outpatients Clinic has paediatric clinics running daily; you can witness planned appointments with different specialities across paediatrics. Children’s Day Surgery is also an area within Day Services that you can observe Children and Young People under go paediatric surgery and recovery.
