PLACEMENT INFORMATION:
The Pharmacy Department plays a crucial role in a patients journey through the hospital. We supply inpatient, outpatient and chemotherapy medications, as well as specialist advice and counselling to patients. We as a department help to monitor drug uses and decisions made by doctors and ensure compliance to all relevant laws across our Trust sites.

There are many specialist areas within the pharmacy including Aseptics, Clinical Trials, Antimicrobials, Medicines Information, Quality Assurance, Dispensary, Procurement and Stores to name a few! We support staff completing NVQ level 2 and NVQ level 3 Apprenticeships to gain pharmacy qualifications and host trainee pharmacists on placement from university.

PLACEMENT DETAILS:
On this placement you will get to experience elements of some of these areas as well as the other job roles at a ward level that interlink with the wider medical team (doctors, nurses etc.) to provide the best possible care for our patients. We are a large and friendly team made up of admin staff, dispensers, technicians, assistants, and pharmacists who cannot wait to welcome you to work with us.

During the placement you will have the opportunity to assist pharmacists with prescription filling, inventory management, and patient service. Responsibilities include accurately dispensing medications, organising stock, maintaining cleanliness, and adhering to safety protocols. Gain hands-on experience in a fast-paced healthcare environment while providing support to patients and healthcare professionals.

Collaborate effectively within various teams in the pharmacy setting, including pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, and administrative staff. Work closely with pharmacists to ensure accurate medication dispensing and get a valuable insight in to patient consultations. You will be given the chance to liaise with pharmacy technicians to streamline workflow processes, maintain inventory levels, and uphold regulatory standards. Engage with administrative staff to facilitate smooth operations, handle admin inquiries, and maintain accurate records. By actively participating in multidisciplinary teams, gain insight into the diverse roles within pharmacy practice and develop essential teamwork skills critical for success in the healthcare field.
