Diabetic Eye Screening Programme (DESP) - Retinopathy, a condition particularly prevalent in people with diabetes, can cause serious damage to the eyes and may result in blindness, although if detected early and treated appropriately, damage can be minimised.

This is multi-professional role involving eye photography and grading/ identifying retinopathy (damage to the retina) caused by complications of diabetes.
Whilst on placement the individual will spend a week in the company of the screening department and retinal screener, observing the routine screening process. Observations including:
•Administering eye drops
•Visual acuity readings
•Photography and general screening duties
•Administration systems...........
